Friday Fun~August 31st....

Hey everyone, Happy Friday!

How many of you out there have wooden stamps?  Lots, right??  Well, Because I work at the Home Depot, I am always looking at all kinds of things and trying to think of how they can be used creatively.  So one day while I was walking down the moulding aisle with this piece of wood in my hand, it suddenly struck me that it would make the PERFECT shelf for wood stamps!  Once I got it home I gave it a quick coat of white craft paint and then grabbed my ribbon jar and found this big, adorable, pom-pom fringe and adhered it on with my Fabri-Tac glue.  These boards can be cut in any size you need.  I have another one that is a bit longer with Pink pom-pom fringe on it in another corner of the Scrap studio too.  Quick, easy, inexpensive way to store your stamps and make your room look super cute!

Here is a pic of how it turned out:

So, for all you wooden stamp owners out there, How do you store your collection?  Do you have a special container? Box? Shelf?   I would love to see what you have come up with, either leave us a sweet comment here and post us a cute picture over at the message board right here: Little Red Scrapbook.

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday and thanks for stopping by!

Thursday Theme... a quick and frugral mini album.

I wanted to share a fun idea for using the July/ August Theme kit today! It is not too late to pick this kit up for yourself so you can create what I am sharing today, too!

YOU CAN FIND IT HERE!

I had seen all sorts of baby mini albums all over the web using the new baby Crate lines and wanted to try one for myself using only the Theme kit, along with some basic supplies you may have in your stash, or around your home....

First I gathered everything up....

supplies:

the July/August 2012 Little Red Scrapbook Theme Kit
the Basic Cardstock add on from Little Red Scrapbook
12 doilies
a pint or quart sized berry container
a bit of twine

First, I cut all of the white cardstock from the basic cardstock add on into 12 pieces measuring 5 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches.

Next, I cut 12 pieces of the patterned paper from the theme kit to measure 5 1/4 by 3 1/4 inches.

I took the Crate Little Bo Peep Tag Cuts paper and cut out all of the tags. Then, I chose my 12 favorites for my mini pages.

I also cut several circles in assorted sizes and colors, but mainly used the 1 1/4 inch punched light pink circles on most of the little pages.

I gathered the doilies from my stash, the gems from the theme kit and one berry container.

Then, I just layered them up, fast and easy. I used the same basic pattern and that made it so fun. It was so quick to create a year of memories for my little girl!

I also added some machine stitching to finish up my little pages and give them that last touch to really make them feel complete to me.

I hope you will run over and grab your own kit so you can create something for your little girl (or any sweet baby girl you know), too!

Have a lovely day!

Weekly LRS Challenge

Happy Monday all!! :) It's AnnaMarie here with a new Weekly Challenge! :)

This week's challenge is an easy-peasy one :) - use an element from this month's (or a previous month's :)) kit in any way OTHER than its originally intended purpose.

For example, on this layout I created using this month's BEAUTIFUL Main Kit and Embellishment add-on:

The chipboard sticker photo frame wasn't quite large enough to enclose my two photos (especially as I had tilted the photos), so I cut the frame in half and then snipped the corners at an angle to create photo corners instead. This allowed me to also tilt the "corners" and continue with that same basic whimsical feel throughout the rest of the page. :)

And on this layout (another one created with this month's kit :)):

I started out intending to use the Maya Road Butterfly Mask (also from this month's Main Kit) as a subtle mask on the background paper but once I began misting with the white ink spray, I decided I liked it better incorporated as a dimensional element on the layout instead!

SO let's get started with the challenge! :) You can upload your layout to the Little Red Scrapbook Challenge Gallery HERE and link back in a comment on this post as well. I hope you find this challenge an easy one that gives you a little motivation for scrapping, and that you especially get a chance to play along this week! :)

Friday Fun with water color crayons!

It's Friday and you know what that means...another edition of Friday Fun!!

This week I'm going to share with you a new favorite technique of mine which is incorporating water color crayons as an accent to my layouts.  Water color crayons go on paper just like a regular crayons but blend nicely with a brush and small amount of water into a fabulous watercolor piece of art.

On this layout I used the butterfly stencils from the August LRS kit and misted the outer design around the butterflies.  The stencils come in two parts so you have an inner design as well.  I just traced around both with a permanent ink pen so the designs won't run when I add the water during a later step.

As you can see in this photo I began adding color to the stenciled area just like I could color the design with a regular crayon..it's so easy!

In the next photo you will see the butterflies I colored.  Don't worry about coloring within the lines or completely filling in the shapes as the water will blend the color smoothly.

Using a brush and a small amount of water, blend the colors to the desired design.  Try not to wet the paper too much as to prevent warping.  For this layout, I also added a few drops of alcohol ink to enhance the previously misted design.

Here is my finished layout using the August kit and water color crayons. I also used the used the water color crayons to alter the Jenni Bowlin Alphas which are sold as an add-on to the August kit! So fun!

I hope you are able to try this new technique and please share your work in the LRS gallery!

Weekly Challenge - 8/20

It's no secret that I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Silhouette Cameo electronic cutter.  I'm always looking for ways to use it and expand my creativity.  I decided to take one of my favorite shapes and make it into a card.  My challenge for you this week is to create a card in the shape other than a square or rectangle.  So think outside the box....literally!

I can't wait to see what you come with and be sure to post your creations on the LRS message board.

Friday Fun - Getting Those Good Action Shots! :)

I hope that the beautiful summer weather has provided you all with many great photo opportunities - I know our recent vacation trip up north did that for me! :) Always though, one of the things that I aspire for is a *good* action shot - capturing that shot or series of shots seems to just add a vibrant feel and energy to a new layout! :)

Sometimes you may want to scrap just a single-action shot - one where the motion is stopped or "frozen" at the exact moment it's happening. The flowing currents of the water as seen here in this picture of the falls up north is a good example. :)

And here is another example where my husband is tossing Lucas into the air while at the lake. :)

And sometimes you may want to scrap action shots which show actions flowing in sequence. Setting your particular's camera mode to an action setting will usually suffice in helping you get those perfect shots because you're getting a series of shots in motion taken at a mode faster than you could normally snap on your own in a regular setting. Although you may end up with WAY more captures at that particular moment than you will need, out of all of the ones you take, you're bound to end up with a few great ones in a row! :)

And sometimes you can also capture a different feel and perspective with these types of shots simply by changing where you are standing and how you are holding the camera. On the shots above, you notice that I got as close as I could to Lucas from behind him (without jumping in myself! :-P), but in this next series of shots (same day but different locale ;)), I tilted the camera a bit and shot from the side to try to capture some of the emotion on his face as well as obtain some different (side) lighting peeking through the trees. :)

So now it's time to let me see some of YOUR favorite action shots taken over this summer! :) Please share over on the thread I started on the LRS message board - I look forward to seeing them!

Happy Friday all! :)

August Mid Month Design Team Highlights

You know how I always say this...that it blows me away how each and every one of the DT girls has their own style and creates their own spin on the kit?  Yes?  Well, I feel like you members are so lucky to see this, too!  There are so many different ways you can use the August kit and the DT examples just prove that!! From beach layouts, to baby, to high school student, to travel to childhood, this kit works for ANYTHING!!

Tammy blew me away with this layout...I just love her strips of paper, the title at the top, how she did the journaling and used the little Maya Road ship...the stitching and the little chipboard screws?  Genius!!

Happy- August Kit

AnnaMarie was so clever...love how she cut up the chipboard frame to create this whimsical and fun layout of time at the beach playground with her kids...I also love the three rounded corners and the tabs on the right...SO cute!!

Beach Fun (August Kit)

How beautiful is this layout by Karrie??  Love the hidden journaling on the tag, the way she used the ribbon and the bling and the little embellie cluster of bike, butterfly and tickets!

Griffin

Nikki's beautiful layout just draws you in with her fabulous photo but the layers are what get me..stamping, splatters, ink, washi, stickers, paper, chipboard...she's got it all!!!

My BEST girl

Meg's misting and masking got me here...LOVE how this is essentially a clean and simple layout but it's NOT...the focus is on the photo and I always love how she mixes alphas and layers her titles on her photos.

Old Pier, Provincetown

And one from me...I mostly let that background paper do it's thing (that is one of the best parts of this paper line!) but layered embellishments throughout...I did add some of my beloved Tim Holtz filmstrip ribbon, but everything else is from the kit...

On Her Way

So there you have my favorites from this month's August 2012 Design Team Gallery..be sure to stop by and check out all the lovely eye candy from the Little Red Ladies..your kit should be hitting your doorstep soon, and if you haven't bought yours yet...there are still a few available in the store.  The photos don't really do this kit justice...the papers have such a beautiful depth and character to them...and there are so many great embellishments to make it pop!!
Don't miss out on this versatile kit! If you're not a member, this is a great time of year to join! All the newest scrapbooking supplies are delivered to your door during the busy fall season...that will keep you scrapping and happy all month!! 3 month memberships are only $25 a month (plus shipping) and a 6 month membership is an amazing $22.50 a month (plus shipping).  You will NOT find a better deal in a kit club out there, I promise!!

Weekly Challenge-- 8-13

Hello fellow scrapbookers, I hope you are all having a good start to your Monday! Let's get this week started off right, with a little scrapbook challenge :) I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new August Little Red Scrapbook kit, not only because it features my all time favorite company " Basic Grey " , but it is packed with so many goodies! Sara did such an amazing job picking the right embellishments to go along with this amazing kit!

Because there are so many awesome embellishments, I thought I would make this challenge about using one of them in this kit. Here is my card I made using the "Maya Roads" butterfly masks found in the Main August kit this month.

As you can see, I used the butterfly mask to add a background to my plain cardstock paper. Not only did it make the card stand out more, but it added so much more detail to draw your eye into the card.

My challenge to you, is to use a mask on a card or layout. They add just the right "POP" to your creation. You can use ink (like I did on my card), paint, spray, mist, etc. The ideas are endless!

If you do this challenge, please come upload it to the Little Red Scrapbook challenge gallery, so we can all see what you did and leave a comment!

I can't wait to see what you create!

Friday Fun - Custom Die Cuts

One of the things I love about my new Silhouette Cameo is I can create just about any kind of die cut image I desire.  I decided to take inspiration from the awesome Studio Calico Wood Veneers included in the August Add-on kit.

I created a die cut to match each wood veneer shape to use on layouts and projects.

Here is an example of how I used one of the die cuts in a layout.  I can't wait to come back from vacation and play with the rest of them!

Card Challenge!

Hey there, Tammy here with your August card challenge!

One of my favorite things to do when I'm creating a card is to add some sort of natural element. Whether it's a touch of burlap, a bit of raffia, or a few natural flowers-- it just adds a nice organic feel to each card.

So my challenge for you this month is to add a natural element to your card.  Here is my example using the August kit from LRS.

Have fun! Don't forget to upload a photo of your card to the gallery and link it to the August Card Challenge thread on the message board so we can all admire your work!

A first look...

The August Kit was so enticing that a few of the DT girls already have samples up for you to enjoy!  Meg shared her sketch layout in the last post but also created this beautiful layout...

the misting with the butterfly masks...the layering, the tag on the left with the year...ahhh...I absolutely LOVE what she did here...
Old Pier, Provincetown
\

I created this one with Meg's sketch challenge...I let the paper do most of the work, cutting into it with a craft knife to add the tags to the right and the doily to the left...and I may have used it upside down, but I preferred it this way!

BFF

And Tammy also used the sketch to give us this gem... I love how she cut circles and added stiching, the splatter of mists and the way she replaced the photos at the top with embellies and journaling!

Explore- August kit

Sketches are so much fun and a great jumping off point to starting a layout.  Hope you'll all join us with the sketch challenge this month.  Just upload your creation to our gallery and then link us up in the sketch thread HERE.  Can't wait to see what you create!

August Sketch challenge.....

It's that time again ladies!  With the new August kit reveal I found this great sketch which will be perfect to use up all those yummy goodies you will find it your mailbox very soon!

Here is my take on the sketch:

I switched it up a bit by using embellishments on the top row instead of the pictures.  I spritzed the doily with a mixture of Santa Baby and Walnut gold glimmermist that I had in my stash.  The scrabble tiles remind me of the days that the two girls used to play that game for hours with their Great Grandmother while growing up, They were just the perfect touch for this layout because the picture was taken in her yard where they used to spend countless Saturdays with her. Did I tell you all how much I love this kit?!!  It is just so awesome!

This sketch was a lot of fun to play with and I am very excited to see what you all come up with!  Please be sure to stop back by the message board and show us a glimpse of your masterpiece!

Happy Creating!

Meg
